COST OF MEDICAL TREATMENT IN COSTA RICA

Medical tourists from the United States, Canada and Europe should definitely compare the cost of medical treatment in Costa Rica to what it would cost at home. You can reach Costa Rica from just about everywhere in the U.S. and Canada in 12 hours or less; from Europe in well under a day. Costa Rica has eminently qualified doctors, excellent hospitals — Americana WellcareCR WILL NOT send patients to small unidimensional, non-accredited clinics that are unable to deal immediately with possible complications on the spot — attractive recovery centers, affordable costs, and provides an opportunity for a memorable vacation.

Consider these facts:

  • The cost of medical treatment in Costa Rica can range from a third to even a fourth of what it can cost in the United States and Canada (see chart below)
  • Because Costa Rica is close to both the United States and Canada, it is an ideal destination for North American medical tourists
  • The World Health Organization ranked the quality of healthcare in Costa Rica as one of the top three countries in Latin America, and even higher than the United States
  • Americana WellCareCR's team of doctors are all English-speaking and have all undergone advanced training at universities, medical schools and hospitals in the United States
  • As required by law, medical practitioners carry liability insurance at all times, giving patients protection and coverage from malpractice
  • Certain surgical procedures, such as bariatric (weight-loss) surgery specifically to cure diabetes for non-obese patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) under 30, are not yet available in the United States and Canada
  • Costa Rica's three leading private hospitals, such as Hospital Clínica Bíblica in San José, boast world-class standards and are accredited by the JCI (Joint Commission International). We will not send patients to small unidimensional, non-accredited clinics that are unable to deal immediately with possible complications on the spot.
  • Language will not be a barrier because, along with the doctors, the hospital staff, recovery center staff and tourist industry personnel, as well as a surprisingly high number of Costa Ricans, especially those in their teens, 20s and 30s, can speak English
  • The culture in Costa Rica is family-oriented and friendly; visitors will receive a warm and hospitable welcome not only by the hospital and recovery center staff but by just about everyone
  • Costa Rica is a prime eco-tourism destination. Visitors are assured of majestic views, amazing tourist attractions, incomparable natural beauty and a temperate climate. Medical tourists can enjoy an excellent vacation experience conducive to recovery and relaxation
